Welcome to our site!

Here on our pages are lesson plans that have been developed specifically for children with disabilities developed by a Speech Language Pathologist with 20 years of experience. These research based activities foster language development via children's literature with an emphasis on literacy. The lesson plans focus on early literacy skills including story retelling, comprehension, writing, and exposure to the reading process. Each lesson plan has been used with students with multiple disabilities and includes communication boards for the songs, activities, and books made with the popular software Boardmaker.

The following themes currently have lesson plans developed for them. More are on the way!

Each of the plans includes the following components, and resources to find more activities related to each theme:

  • Pre-Reading activities (vocabulary, music, videos, background knowledge, book walks, word walls, phonological awareness activities)
  • During Reading activities (teacher read-alouds, shared reading, comprehension)
  • Post-Reading activities (computer, food preparation, play, art, written language)
